The Soaring Eagle

Only your body is limited. Your spirit can 'mount up on wings like eagles'

Known by Jesus

“When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

(Luke 5:20)

There are an amazing number of unnamed people whose face to face encounters with Jesus are faithfully recorded in Scripture. They include this man lowered through the roof by his friends, the lepers, the blind, the lame, the crippled, those who had died, the sick, the sinners, the searching, the demon possessed, the criminal crucified with Him,  and those who came to Him on behalf of others. Whilst there is nothing that would help us to identify them each one had a life-changing contact with the Lord. It is certain that they would never forget Him – and that being the Lord and Saviour He would never forget them.

It is wonderfully encouraging for the many of us whose names will escape the pages of History – that our Lord knows who we are, where we are and all about us. To the world we may be nameless non-entities. To Jesus Christ our Lord we are known personally and intimately. I well remember the deeply moving experience of a young woman who burst into tears during a service as she realised that God knew her name – and therefore knew who she was.

We do not have to attract God’s attention and arrange an introduction. On the contrary He tries very hard to attract our attention so that He can reveal Himself, and His great love, to us. As we journey through the week ahead let us remember always that God is with each one of us. He knows our names, He knows our hearts, He knows our thoughts and all about us. Tennyson had it right when he wrote,

“Closer is He than breathing, and nearer than hands and feet.”

Trust God’s presence. Read His Word. Talk to Him throughout the day.

Lord you know me, You are with me and will never lose sight of me. Please help me to be aware of You always. Thank You so much. Amen.

  1. God is so faithful in seeking to make Himself known to us. I love that about Him!
