Plant the Right Seed

2013.06.13

“A man reaps what he sows.”

(Galatians 6:7)

Reflection:

Anyone who has dabbled in gardening will know the truth of this statement. If we want certain flowers or vegetables then we have to plant and nurture the correct seeds. If we leave the soil untended then we are likely to see a mass of weeds – and shouldn’t be surprised or complain.

Our lives are the same. If we allow the world to feed us we will get what the world sows. The world does this through newspapers, television, radio, advertisements, the internet, movies, fashions and in many other ways. Much of it we absorb without thinking and we can find that our attitudes have been influenced by what we see or hear. Whilst some of it is useful much of it is harmful.

Christians must ensure that they are intentionally sowing the right seeds. The Bible, Christian literature and teaching, Christian friends and mentors and Christian churches are part of an essential diet – as well as prayer and self-examination. Even with this most Christians will be exposed to far more of the worlds sowing. That happens all the time – but they will have something to hold against it, by which to examine it, to warn them of dangers and to steer them in the right direction.

Christianity – our life and relationship with God – needs to be intentional and focussed. Only in this way will it bear fruit. Only in this way will we grow and discover the blessings and joys of a deepening relationship with our Lord. Only in this way will we be enabled to become men and women of God.

Response:

Prayer – the Bible – Christian fellowhip. Make sure that they are an essential part of your diet.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, please help me to sow the right seeds into my life, nurture them and see the fruit. Amen.

  1. Amen! Kind of related to this is the fact that I hear in the past some people saying they don’t want to be a disciple of Jesus…the fact is, we are always being discipled by someone or something…whether it’s something of the World or by Christ.
