“O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.”
It is easy to pray for forgiveness, especially when the fact of our sin is demanding attention. However we sometimes forget two things.
Firstly our forgiveness is possible only because of the death of Jesus upon the Cross. Without that death and resurrection there would be no salvation. Our sins would remain on us and the judgement to come would be one in which we had no hope whatsoever of acquittal and freedom. We would forever be excluded from eternal life in the love and presence of God.
Secondly we can forget to respond in thankfulness and praise. God should be thanked deeply, sincerely and regularly for this great and wonderful gift – and for making it possible for us to be set free and cleansed of our sin. Then He should be praised to Himself and to others because of His wonderful love and provision. We dare not take this great love and sacrificial gift too lightly or for granted.
Stop now and tell God how wonderful He is and how grateful you are.
Heavenly Father You are so wonderful, and Your love is so amazing. Thank You so very much for loving me and for the terrible death and wonderful resurrection of Your Son Jesus on my behalf. I am deeply grateful and pray that You will help me to reveal it in my life and living. Amen.
