“And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
(1 Kings 19:12)
One of my favourite parts of the day is a time of quiet with the Lord. This isn’t for asking anything for myself or for others, or for thinking through a passage of Scripture. It is one of quiet reflection with Him.
I normally sit and look out into the darkening sky, watching the night unfold and enjoying the moment. Then after greeting Him I ask Him what He would like to remember with me. I allow my mind to go back over the day and to recall various moments – anything from the beauty of the sun on the clouds, the song of a bird or the laughter of a child, to moments of pain or pleasure, success or failure, blessing or frustration. I chat to Him about anything that is on my heart or mind, listen out for any response and allow us also to just be quiet together.
It is our special time, with no hard and fast agenda and without the need for anyone’s knowledge or approval. I can be completely open with Him about anything and everything – and know that He is listening, caring and loving me.
Whether an evening reflection, a morning coffee or a midday moment – take time where you can for a personal chat with the Lord.
Father You are always watchful, waiting and wanting time with me. Help me to allow myself time with You, as Father and Child, for us to know and love each other. Amen.
