“But just as he who called you is holy,
so be holy in all you do”
(1 Peter 1:15)
The Spirit is referred to as the Holy Spirit. As God He is holy. He is focussed on holiness and His intention is to make us truly holy.
As believers we are made holy – set apart for God. He intends that we should reveal more of His truth and likeness in our life and living as we are grown and developed by the Spirit in the likeness of Christ – the perfect model and expression of holiness. Our growth is progressive – “from one degree of glory to another” (2 Corinthians 3:18). In this everything that we do, both internally and externally, should become increasingly holy – something which honours God.
In so far as we are open to the Spirit’s influence
• He helps us to live life God’s way – not the worlds
• He pours the love of God into our hearts (Romans 5:5)
• He produces the spiritual fruit that is the evidence of His grace (Galatians 5:22)
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control
• He liberates and uses the gifts that He has planned for us (1 Corinthians 12)
• He empowers us for the life, ministry and mission of Christ (Acts 1:8)
and for the good works planned for us in advance (Ephesians 2:10)
‘The Spirit will not sanction our coming to Jesus singing ‘Just as I am’ – and then remaining just as we were!’ He is focussed more on our characters than our comfort – and in the kind of people we are, and are becoming, than in what we accomplish in the world. It is what He will accomplish in us and through us that is of paramount importance.
It becomes really exciting for us when we begin to discover the wonder of worshipping God ‘in the beauty of holiness.’ There is the awesome wonder and delight of His beauty and glory – and then the emotional discovery that we can worship Him in truth from the areas in our own lives which are being touched and transformed by His love.
The Spirit will help us in every area of our life – to live it God’s way.
Lord God, it is Your Kingdom and Your will that has to be the most important. Please help me to trust and follow You in all areas of my life – and to grow in my knowledge and love of You.. Amen.
