Seek More

Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world,
so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”
(John 9:39)

This is an extremely challenging statement that has in it both a warning and an invitation. The warning is to those who refuse to see and the invitation to the ones who want to.

There are some who cannot or will not perceive in Jesus anything to draw them to Him or to cause them to treat Him as of vital significance. Caught up in their own situations, desires and wisdom, and the wisdom of the world, they are blind to the importance and relevance of the Saviour.

On the other hand there are those who do see in Him that which draws them closer in wonder, interest or in need. Such a person will soon become aware of their own blindness and long to see more clearly and to know more of the Lord.

No seeker or believer sees fully or quite clearly. That means that we must continue asking the Lord to open our eyes to Him and His truth, and to ourselves and the world. Then we may accept the light that He gives us and walk by it.

It may be tempting sometimes to have our spiritual eyes only half-open and to live by half the light. This can give us a sense of remaining in control and keeping our options open. The result is a dangerous and luke-warm approach to the Lord, our sin and the ways of the world. It keeps us from a full commitment and from enjoying a healthier, secure and intimate relationship with Him.

Take another step towards the Lord

Lord please help me to see more of the wonder of Your glory, truth and love and to respond with more of my life and living. Amen.
