“What are you willing to give me”
(Matthew 26:15)

Reflection:
So much of our attitude to life may be summed up in the words, “What’s in it for me?”

Here Judas was pursing his own agenda and his desire for money. He was already a person who helped himself to the monies entrusted to the group. Now it was not just a case of theft but of betraying and selling out on someone else – in this case the most remarkable person whom he had ever encountered.

In contrast the life and attitude of Jesus was entirely different. His focus was on loving and giving. It is captured beautifully in His opening prayer from the Cross – a prayer that flowed out over the heads of those who had betrayed, rejected, abandoned and crucified Him, and reached out even to the body of the now dead Judas,

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)

Jesus died, not for what was in it for Him –but what was in it for us.
He could have lived without us – we could not have lived without Him.

Response:
What is my yardstick in life?

Prayer:

Lord my welfare and well-being are important to me – but please help me to care also for the welfare and well-being of others, particularly those around me. Amen
