Not Alone

“And surely I am with you always,
to the very end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:20)

Reflection:
The world can be a very lonely place. Everything around us may seem to be unfriendly and intimidating. Locally, nationally and internationally frightening and terrible things are happening. Many people retreat into themselves with a sense that nobody cares or understands.

Yet still there is One voice that comes to us through the ages – “surely I am with you always.” The One speaking is none other than Jesus Christ Himself. What He said to His followers over two thousand years ago He still says to His followers today.

This is the Lord of lords and King of kings, our Lord and Saviour, the glorious Son of God. Through Him all things were made and in Him is Life itself. He demonstrated His supreme power and authority when He cast out demons, healed the sick, raised the dead, calmed the wind and the waves, fed the five thousand and turned water into wine. He is the One for whom nothing is impossible and who will re-appear one day in all His power and glory.

This Mighty God is the One who tells us that He will be with us always. And not only with us – through the Holy Spirit He is within us as well in an intimate and personal way that no one can take from us.

Wherever you are, and whatever your life is like at this moment Jesus Christ is with you. He knows you intimately – far better than you know yourself. He may or may not miraculously and suddenly change you or your situation. However what He will certainly seek to do is to use your situation to establish (a deeper) contact with you and a more intimate relationship of love – and to equip and strengthen you for the journey.

Response:
Acknowledge Him. Keep reminding yourself that He is there with you – and Who He is. Speak to Him.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus thank You for being here with me. Help me to become more aware of You and to trust in Your love and help. Amen.
