Powerful Enough

“For nothing is impossible with God.”
(Luke 1:37)

Reflection:
Our vision of God defines our lives.

God is All-Powerful. He is the Creator, Sustainer and Redeemer of the whole created order. It is estimated that at present it would take 93 billion years travelling at the speed of light to get from one side of the universe to the other. However that universe is expanding all the time. Nevertheless the Lord God not only fills the universe but He is beyond and independent of it – and more powerful.

“It is I who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshalled their starry hosts.” (Isaiah 45:12)

The creation account in the first chapter of Genesis is a beautifully crafted and breath-taking expression of the majesty and power of God.

• ‘Let there be’
• ‘And it was so’
• ‘And it was good’

These simple statements encompass everything and embrace within them all the mystery and wonder that has been discovered by humankind – and so much more that still remains hidden.

Uncontained by what He has created God goes further. In response to Mary’s question of how she would come to carry the child of God the angel says to her simply,

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” (Luke 1:35)

And then came the electrifying truth after Jesus had died upon the cross and been buried and sealed within the tomb.

“He has risen” (Matthew 28:6)

God is truly the One and Only and Almighty God – and we see the same power and authority exercised by Jesus during His earthly ministry. He healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out demons, and calmed the wind and the waves by speaking with authority.

Almighty God is more than able to fulfill all His plans and His promises to us. And,

“we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Response:
Peace is knowing that we can trust God in all circumstances and at all times

Prayer:

Father Almighty help me to put my faith and trust in You – and to walk quietly with You through the days of my life. Amen.
