“And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment–to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ”
God has done far more than choose us in past eternity and give us the privilege of having been adopted as His sons and daughters as our present reality right now.
He has also let us into the mystery of His will for the future – His purpose and intention that He will bring about for all eternity. Jesus Christ is already the head of His body, the Church, which He brought into being and equipped and empowered with the Holy Spirit. However one day, on a day that has already been decided by God, God will gather all and everything together and place them under the control, rule and authority of Jesus Christ.
At present there is still discord and disbelief in the universe. However in the fullness of time in God’s plan all this will cease and complete unity will come into being under the headship of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then, truly,
“at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11)
The plan that God has revealed is this. Everything which was created through and for Christ, and which holds together in Christ (Colossians 1:16-17), will finally be united under Christ by being subjected to His Lordship and headship as the ‘heir of all things’ (Hebrews 1:2).
In this fullness of time God’s two glorious creations – His whole universe and His whole church – will be brought together in unity under the eternal and universal Christ who is the supreme head of both. And we, as the daughters and sons of God, will be a part of it.
We are on a journey with a definite and glorious destination – from which nothing in today or tomorrow can separate us
Yes Lord – may Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, both now and forever. Amen.
