God of Love 6

“Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies”
(Psalm 36:5)

Reflection:
God is a God of Love.

Because we are of this fallen world, which represents the limits of our normal experience, we tend to assess everything accordingly. However the Psalmist is encouraging us to break free from such limitations as we turn our attention toward God.

He reminds us that just as God is not of this world so His attributes are beyond the limitations of the world. Instead he envisions the love of God as being so great that it  embraces both the world and the heavens. And because faithfulness is such an integral part of love it too reaches from the earth to the skies. In other words the love and faithfulness of God are so limitless that we cannot go anywhere and find that we are beyond them.

Wherever and however we are right now the God of love and the love of God is with us. That does not mean that He has to or will change our situations to suit us. He may do so or for reasons of His own He may not. However He will be with us at all times, loving and sustaining us. As we trust and believe in His love change will begin to take place within us – and that itself will begin to alter our attitude towards our situations and then our situations themselves.

Response:
The love of God is as present to us as the air that we breathe. Take some deep breaths of it now – savour and receive it.

Prayer:

Father Your love for me is ever-present, unlimited and unconditional. Please help me to trust it and live within it every moment of every day. Amen.
