“But you, O Lord,
are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger,
abounding in love and faithfulness”
(Psalm 86:15)
Reflection:
God is a God of Love.
All of Scripture testifies to this great truth. However the Bible also makes it clear that God is not a God to be trifled with. He is holy, pure, righteous and just and one who does not write off sin as if it does not matter. Sin does matter. The Cross tells us just how much it matters whilst, at the same time, revealing the full extent and power of the love of God.
Whilst God is faithful to His holiness and righteousness and cannot disregard sin His love is so abundant that He seeks to save us from its consequences. He does this by taking the stain and guilt of sin upon Himself and accepting the judgement and penalty in our place. This reveals to us just how much He wants us to be saved and to enter into a new and free relationship with Him.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16)
Response:
God’s love flows out to me in glorious waves.
Prayer:
Lord God please help me to believe and trust in Your abounding love at all times. Amen.
