“When the wine was gone,
Jesus’ mother said to him,
“They have no more wine”
(John 2:3)
Reflection:
If this account of Jesus first miracle tells us anything it is this – we can bring to Him the everyday issues of life. Peter and Paul confirm this later when they tell us,
- “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7)
- “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6)
The further I get on my journey with the Lord the more I realise that we not only can, but in fact should, bring every part of it to Him in prayer. Whether it is things that we have to do, fears and concerns, challenges and issues, relationships and confrontations, sickness and whatever else – He is concerned and prepared to involve Himself out of His great love for us. Indeed the nation was told through the prophet Isaiah,
- ‘Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!’ (Isaiah 30:18)
Nothing is too small and personal a matter – or too large and complex a problem – for the Lord. As we learn to live in a continual conversation with Him it becomes the easiest and most natural thing in the world to involve Him in everything that occupies or concerns us. And what a blessing it is as we begin to perceive His response.
Response:
Right now – ask Him to involve Himself in something that concerns you.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus You teach us to ask –and to keep on asking – help me to bring everything to You in prayer and to trust You for Your loving response. Amen.
