My New Identity

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are!”
(1 John 3:1)

Reflection:
As a Christian  I have received a new identity. It is critical that I realise it, recognise it and receive it. I am now a child of God – fully and finally. I am His son/daughter.

We know that His desire for us is that we know and embrace this truth. He has given us the gift of His Holy Spirit to witness to our spirits that it is true.

“For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children” (Romans 8:15-16)

Note the word “are.” Both John and Paul do not say that we might be, or will be, but that we are!

This great truth is not dependent upon the way that we feel – nor upon our worthiness or unworthiness. It is dependent only upon the love and grace of God and our acceptance of it.

If we do not accept it we will always be trying to earn it in some way. If we do accept it we can begin to live in His love for us.

Response:
If I have asked Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Saviour I have become a daughter/son of God. Dwell on this truth and pray it into your spirit.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus I put my faith and trust in You – please witness to my spirit the truth of my new and eternal relationship with You. Amen.
